A Man with Pimples on his Cheek

TURN THE OTHER CHEEK

In the halls where power sways,
Where voices clash in loud array,
A figure stands amidst the strife,
A politician, versed in life.

With words that cut and promises deep,
He speaks to those who dare to weep,
Yet when the stones of scorn are thrown,
He turns his cheek, a stance well-known.

“Forgive,” he says, with voice so clear,
“Let love replace the seed of fear.”
His rivals mock, they plot, they scheme,
But he holds fast to a higher dream.

So in this realm where tempests roar,
Where greed and pride take hold and soar,
Remember this, in heart and mind,
True strength is gentle, just, and kind.

For the politician who seeks to lead,
Must plant a humble, righteous seed,
And in the storm, though fierce and bleak,
He’ll stand tall, and turn the other cheek.

What are YOUR thoughts and feelings about these words in my poem? Do YOU expect those in public life to “turn the other cheek” or are these just platitudes of Jesus that don’t apply any more in our world today?
